Applications for Torlon Plastic
Torlon plastic’s versatility, strength, and corrosion resistance make it the ideal choice for a variety of products in a wide range of industries and applications. It maintains its form even in extreme hot and cold environments and is virtually unaffected by most corrosive acids, organics, and chemicals. Automotive industry applications
Due to its ability to operate in high heat, friction, and pressure conditions, Torlon plastic is widely used to replace metal components in transmissions and other automotive systems. Common Torlon components include hydraulic seal rings, axial thrust bearings, transmission check balls, offset control arm bushings, transmission shift bushings, and more.
Aerospace industry applications
Torlon plastic meets the most stringent requirements of the aerospace industry, including stability in both hot and cold environments, high pressure, corrosion, and wear resistance, and the ability to withstand friction and impact. Most important, Torlon is virtually unaffected by exposure to jet fuels, de-icing chemicals, and lubricants. It is commonly used to create clip nuts, thermal isolators, sector gears, bushings, screws, tubing, rollers, fasteners, and propulsion system components.

Torlon is the plastic of choice to manufacture high performance connectors, switches, relays, insulators, ignition components, fiber optics connectors, and other critical electronics parts. It’s an ideal material, because it provides high dielectric strength, excellent electrical insulation, and unmatched impact resistance.
Oil & gas industry applications
The oil & gas industry exposes equipment to hot temperatures, high pressures, abrasive liquids, saltwater, and other conditions that are too extreme for most metals and many plastics. Torlon plastic, on the other hand, can withstand nearly any of these conditions and withstand the harshest conditions the industry experiences. For that reason, it’s used to create seals, back up seal rings, down hole guides, labyrinth seals, bearings, bushings, compressor valve components, valve seats, connector bodies, electrical connectors, and more.
Alternative energy applications
Torlon plastic components are quieter than their metal counterparts and can operate reliably under high load bearing conditions. Both of these properties make it ideal for wind turbine components. When it comes to hydrogen production and storage, Torlon’s sealing and isolation capabilities make it perfect for seals and couplings. It also is resistant to degradation when exposed to radiation, so it is a prime candidate for components in nuclear power stations.
Semiconductors
Torlon is widely used in the semiconductor industry, particularly when high temperature processing is necessary. Semiconductor components that are made from Torlon are dimensionally stable at high and low temperatures, offer contaminant free and clean surfaces, and are resistant to harsh chemicals, organics, acids, and solvents. Torlon plastic is commonly used for wafer handling parts, bearing surfaces, IC test equipment sockets, and more.
